Invalid license errors (Server)

You may see an error on all draw.io diagrams in your Confluence or Jira Server or DC instance in the following situations whe you have an invalid draw.io license.

Expired license maintenance

This error will be displayed when you have installed a version of the draw.io app after your license maintenance period has expired. To resolve this error, either:

  • Install a version that was released prior to this date.
  • Renew the maintenance on the draw.io app to use the latest version.

Non-matching license tier

If your license tier for the draw.io app is lower than the tier you have purchased for Confluence or Jira, you will see this error. To resolve this error, either:

  • Increase the license tier for the draw.io app to match your host Atlassian product.
  • Downgrade the license tier for your Confluence or Jira Server or DC instance to match what you have purchased for the draw.io app.

Non-matching license type

If your host Atlassian product's license type (Commercial, Academic, Open Source Project, Community, Classroom) does not match that of the draw.io app, you will see this error. To resolve this:

  • Purchase a license of the matching type and tier for either the draw.io app, or the host Atlassian product.

What happens to draw.io diagrams in Confluence Server when draw.io is not licensed?

If you stop a trial of the draw.io app for Confluence Server, increase your Confluence user tier without increasing the tier of draw.io, or use a draw.io version that is released after your maintenance period has expired, draw.io will no longer be licensed.

draw.io is unlicensed but still installed

draw.io diagrams are stored as attachments to the pages you inserted them on using the draw.io macros. These pages are the only place where the diagrams are stored and they remain attached to the pages regardless of whether the app is licensed or not.

Without a license, you can still view the diagrams in the Confluence pages, but you will not be able to edit them.

As draw.io is an open source application, and the draw.io app is the version for Atlassian Confluence, you can download these attached diagram files and edit/save the diagrams using the free online version at app.diagrams.net, or download the free Desktop version of draw.io.

draw.io is uninstalled

Important: If you uninstall the draw.io app from your Confluence instance, the attached diagrams will remain on their pages, but Confluence will not know how to render the macros and their diagrams. You won't be able to view or edit the diagrams if the draw.io app is uninstalled.
