Install draw.io Diagram Editor in your organisation

A SharePoint administrator installs draw.io Diagram Editor once for your whole Microsoft 365 organisation. The app is free, and needs no licence key and no draw.io account.

Requirements: draw.io Diagram Editor runs on modern pages in SharePoint Online (Microsoft 365). It does not run on SharePoint Server.

Add draw.io Diagram Editor to the Apps site​

  1. Open the draw.io Diagram Editor listing in the Microsoft Marketplace, click Get it now, then sign in with your work account.
    Alternatively, open the SharePoint admin center, go to More features, click Open under Apps, select SharePoint Store and search for draw.io.
  2. Click Add to Apps site.
  3. Select Enable this app and add it to all sites to make the draw.io web part available on every site in your organisation. If you don't select this option, site owners add the app to their sites individually.
  4. Click Add.

draw.io Diagram Editor will be listed on the Manage apps page, and SharePoint will tell you that the app requires additional permissions.

Approve the Microsoft Graph permission​

The web part checks and creates diagram files through Microsoft Graph, using the permissions of the signed-in user. The app requests the delegated Files.ReadWrite.All permission for Microsoft Graph, which a Global Administrator must approve before the web part can be used.

  1. In the SharePoint admin center, go to Advanced > API access.
  2. Under Pending requests, select the request for Microsoft Graph with the scope Files.ReadWrite.All, then click Approve.
  3. Click Approve in the Approve access panel.

Until the request is approved, every file picked in the web part is reported as not being a valid draw.io diagram.

Note: Users also sign in to the draw.io editor with their Microsoft 365 account the first time they open a diagram in the web part, and grant the editor access to their files. If your organisation restricts user consent to third-party applications, an administrator may need to grant consent for the draw.io application in Microsoft Entra ID.

Add the app to a site​

If the app was not added to all sites, a site owner adds it to each site where the web part should be available.

  1. On the site, click the Settings gear icon at the top right, then select Add an app.
  2. On the My apps page, select draw.io Diagram Editor, then click Add.

The draw.io web part will be available in the web part toolbox on that site's pages.

Check the installed version​

The installed version of draw.io Diagram Editor is shown when you select the app on the Manage apps page in the SharePoint admin center. Include this version when you contact support.
