Change the zoom level

There are several ways you can zoom into and out of your diagram. This only changes what you see on your monitor - your diagram will not appear zoomed in (or zoomed out) when you print or export it to an image format.

Zoom in and out using the toolbar​

Zooming in or out makes your diagram appear on your screen as larger or smaller.

  • Use the Zoom In/Zoom Out tools in the toolbar.
  • Click on the number to the left of the Zoom In/Out magnifying glass icons in the toolbar, then select a different zoom factor from the list.

Touchscreen: If you are using draw.io on a mobile device, make sure nothing is selected in your diagram, then pinch the canvas with two fingers and push them outwards to zoom in, or pull them together to zoom out.

Zoom with the mouse wheel or trackpad​

Pinch two fingers together or spread them apart on a trackpad, or hold down Ctrl (on both Windows and macOS) and use the scroll wheel to zoom in or out.

From version 32.3.1 onwards, toggle View > Zoom with Mouse Wheel via the menu (Classic and Atlas editor themes), or Settings > Zoom with Mouse Wheel (Simple, Minimal and Sketch themes).

  • Enabled: The scroll wheel zooms in and out. Hold down Alt (Option on macOS) and use the scroll wheel to move the drawing canvas up and down.
  • Disabled: The scroll wheel moves the drawing canvas up and down. Hold down Alt (Option on macOS) and use the scroll wheel to zoom in and out.

Hold down Shift and use the scroll wheel to move the drawing canvas left and right in both cases.

View > Zoom with Mouse Wheel is enabled by default in Chrome, Edge and Firefox on macOS and Windows, and in the draw.io Desktop app on macOS and Windows. These browsers differentiate mouse and trackpad inputs, so scrolling with two fingers on a trackpad still moves the drawing canvas. In Safari and on Linux, it is disabled by default.

Note: In Safari and on Linux, draw.io can't differentiate between a mouse and a trackpad. If you enable View > Zoom with Mouse Wheel in the draw.io menu in Safari or on Linux, scrolling with two fingers on a trackpad will zoom as well. On Windows, this also happens with older touchpads without precision touchpad drivers. To move the drawing canvas without zooming, hold down Alt (Option on macOS) while you scroll.

Use keyboard shortcuts to zoom in/out​

Hold down Ctrl on Windows, or Cmd on macOS and press + or - keys on the number pad to zoom in or out.

Zoom in/out using the menu​

  • Select View > Zoom In or View > Zoom Out in the menu.

Fit the diagram to the window​

Click on the zoom factor in the toolbar, then select Fit Window, or press Ctrl+Shift+H (Cmd+Shift+H on macOS) to zoom the diagram, or the pages in page view, to fit the window. If shapes are selected, Fit Window zooms to the selection.

If Fast Rendering is enabled in the configuration (fastRendering, the default in 32.1.1 and later), the diagram stays fitted while you resize the window, show or hide panels, switch pages, or change the page view, page format or page scale. Fit Window has a checkmark while it is active (32.1.0 and later).

  • Zooming in or out, selecting a zoom factor or Reset View stops fitting the diagram.
  • Select Fit Window again to stop fitting and keep the current zoom.

Select Reset View in the same list, or press Home, to zoom to 100%. Press Enter with nothing selected to switch between Reset View and Fit Window.
